About the local area
Our home is in Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 , a leafy, friendly village on the southern edge of the city where suburb meets mountains. It's one of those rare spots where you can walk to a butcher, a bakery, and a good pub, then be on a forest trail ten minutes later.
Right on the doorstep:
Rathfarnham Village , independent shops, delis, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, and traditional pubs, all within walking distance
Marlay Park , 300 acres of parkland with a weekly food market, playgrounds, walled garden, and the start of the Wicklow Way
St Enda's Park & the Pearse Museum — beautiful historic grounds, free to visit
Rathfarnham Castle , a restored 16th-century castle with a lovely café
A short drive or bus ride away:
Dundrum Town Centre , Ireland's largest shopping and dining destination
Nutgrove Shopping Centre , handy for everyday essentials
The Dublin Mountains , Ticknock, Three Rock, Hellfire Club, and Massy's Wood for hiking, biking, and panoramic views over the city and bay
Sport and leisure: Three golf clubs within minutes (Rathfarnham, Castle, and Edmondstown), GAA and rugby clubs, tennis, and excellent gyms.
Getting around: The 16 and 15B buses run frequently into the city centre, the Luas Green Line at Dundrum gets you into town in about 25 minutes, and the M50 (Exit 12) is just up the road — ideal for day trips to Glendalough, Powerscourt, Howth, or the south coast.
Day trips from the door: Dublin city centre (25 mins), Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains (40 mins), Howth and the coast (35 mins), Powerscourt House and Waterfall (30 mins), Bray and Greystones cliff walk (35 mins), and Brittas Bay's long sandy beach (50 mins) , perfect for summer days out.
A great base whether you want city culture, mountain walks, coastal escapes, or just a quiet pint in a friendly village.
