Tips for Using home4home.ie

Tips for Adding Listings

Letting other members know what you love about your home and locality will make your property more attractive for an exchange. Here are our top tips for adding a good listing.

  • Describe your home accurately, and highlight why members of home4home should consider a swap with you.
  • Include a description of your home, and all nearby attractions. Include pictures of your home, and provide home swap members with as much information as possible to help them make their decision. Provide details of your family, and all the amenities available at your home.
  • List your preferred destinations and dates of travel. The more open you are on your wishlist, the more offers for home swaps you are likely to get.
  • Look at other properties, and ask yourself, what appeals to you about these homes? What appeals to you is also likely to appeal to other members, so make sure to update your listing regularly.
  • Often, we are unaware of some of our local attractions or what may appeal to other people. Research your locality and visit your local tourist office to find out what attracts people to your region. Make sure to include these items on your listing.
  • In addition to local tourist attractions, list all the other facilities available in the region, including shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, cinemas and all potential areas of interest.
  • Check with your insurance company if there are any specific requirements in relation to your intention to swap your home.

Tips for Arranging a Swap

  • Contact your home swap partners and agree on dates that suit
  • Leave clear instructions where required for the operation of any household items
  • Leave tips and advice about the area – e.g. good parks or playgrounds nearby, the best places to eat out, any nice walks in the area
  • Leave contact details for a neighbour or family member who can help if your home swap member is having any difficulties.
  • If you have specific privacy requirements, there is no problem closing off a room in the house, and informing your home swap partner that it is not to be used.
  • Leave out the number for the house alarm and instructions on how to use it.
  • Check with your insurance company if there are any specific requirements in relation to your intention to swap your home,
