What is home swapping?

House, or home, swapping is a temporary exchange of homes between two individuals, couples or families and allows people to enjoy each others homes.

What is the best way to contact my home exchange partner?

Once you have chosen a house that you would be interested in swapping with, click on “Request an Exchange”. Put your message in the contact form that appears on screen and send request. If the other member would like to communicate with you they will receive your email address along with your house exchange request. All further contact is then conducted directly between you and your exchange partner, outside of the home4home.ie platform.

When I choose a property, the contact button is not available, why is that?

You must be logged into your home4home.ie account to contact a member. You can log in here

Can I limit my search to town or village?

You can limit a search by county or region in the filters. To limit by town or village, you can use the search box to search for that town.

How do I arrange dates with another member?

After the initial request, you can discuss dates, and any other details, directly with the other member, via email.

What is included in my home4home.ie membership?

Access to free accommodation with all the comforts of your own home.

Can I cancel my membership during the year?

If, for any reason you would like to cancel your membership throughout the year, you can contact home4home.ie on info@home4home.ie or call us on +353 91 530957, and we will arrange this for you.

My membership has expired, how do I renew it?

You will be sent an email as your renewal date approaches, click on the link to renew.

I am having difficulty finding an exchange partner, what am I doing wrong?

Ensure that your home listing is up to date. Take the time to upload attractive photos of your home and surroundings. See our tips for adding a listing.

I can’t remember my password – Can I reset it?

You can reset your password by selecting “forgot password” on the login page and follow the steps that will be emailed to you.

What about home insurance?

Members must ensure their homes have insurance cover for home swapping.

Is there a cleaning procedure I should follow before the arrival of my exchange partner?

It is important for all members to follow strict cleaning guidelines. Your home should be cleaned thoroughly and all surfaces sanitised with disinfectant. Wash all bed linen and blankets/cushions that are on display.

How do I inform my exchange member how appliances work around the house?

It is a good idea to leave a note for your exchange partner to explain everything.

Can everyone view my home address?

Only the area your house is located will be seen, unless you put in these details yourself in the “Address to Display” field.

How do I know if a member is reliable?

All members who register, and their properties must be approved by home4home.ie before going live on our site.

Can I pay my membership in instalments?

Payments must be paid in one single payment.

What if I want to leave my pets at home, is that possible?

You can arrange with your exchange partner to look after your pets during the exchange, if they are happy to do this. If you would like to bring your pet with you, you can filter your search by selecting pet-friendly stays.

How do members find out about my listing once I have joined home4home.ie?

As soon as your property has been reviewed and published on our website, it will be added under “Properties” and it will be available for everyone to view.

Why can’t I see my listing?

Once you place your property through home4home.ie it must be reviewed by our team, and approved before going live. You will receive an email once this has been done (usually within one working day).

Why can’t I log in after registering? The login page says my account is pending

Before an account is approved, users will see an “account pending” message when they try to log in. Once your account is approved, you will be notified by email and can log in then.

How long does the registration review take?

Accounts need to be approved before they are active. Memberships will be approved within one working day of registration. You will receive an email confirming your membership once the team has approved it. You can then log in and start swapping.

I have indicated that I completed an exchange with another member. Why has my “number of exchanges” not been updated?

After an exchange, both parties must confirm the exchange in their home4home.ie account. For an exchange to be counted, the other member must also indicate that it took place.

What ID do I need? 

Driver’s Licence, Passport or any other form of official photo identification is accepted.

Why do I need to submit ID? 

Home4home.ie asks you to submit ID in order to collect, verify and maintain information on our members. This is to help keep our site secure and give you the reassurance that our members are genuine.

Can I list my holiday home? 

Yes, you can list your holiday home.
